The Only Checklist You Need Before Your First Trek

Gear, fitness and mindset — everything a first-time trekker actually needs, minus the fluff.

Planning any trip starts long before day one — the right prep is what separates a trail that feels effortless from one that feels like a struggle. Below is exactly what our own trip leaders check before every batch heads out.

Start With the Basics

Fitness, footwear and a realistic packing list matter more than any single gadget. Break in your shoes at least two weeks before departure, and walk with a loaded pack at least twice before the trip.

Know Your Route

Every itinerary on our site lists elevation, distance per day and difficulty for a reason — use it to judge whether a trip suits your current fitness, not just your enthusiasm.

Trust Your Trip Leader

Altitude, weather and terrain can change fast. When a call is made to slow down, turn back or adjust the plan, it's coming from experience — not caution for its own sake.
